Well those of you who know me realize that I have not always had my life rooted in faith. For several years in fact, I was what you would call a non-believer. Well at the end of last year I realized that something had been missing in my life. I made one simple decision that has really shaped my year and will forever change my life. I decided that I wanted to go to midnight mass on Christmas Eve. I remembered it was something I had always loved as a child and wanted to feel that familiar memory.
Well when I was there, something happened. I could feel a presence and a calm I had not felt for awhile. I realized then, what had been missing. My relationship with God. I felt so at peace at that service, but it took me a little while to pour myself into it. I began shopping for a church in the early spring. I went to several different churches, and found some that were okay. Then Eric and Breanne invited me to their church. They had just gotten a new pastor. And the rest, as they say, is history.
I have found my church home and it feels good. I know that I still have a long way to go but I am so glad that I have taken that first step. Yesterday I even emailed my pastor to share a commitment with him that I made to myself in church. And today when I checked his blog, my words were on there. My story had a made a difference to him.
This year was very, very, very hard for me and I realize that God had his hand in it the whole time. The timing was perfect because I am 110% sure that I would not have made it through this tough year (divorce, death, personal issues...) without my faith in God. This year has been the hardest for me, yet I realize that I have grown alot.
Pastor Shane has talked alot about life change and that is what I am working on. Right now I am trying to get more involved in the church and am working on focusing more on others than on myself. I realize that I have lots of work to do and I also realize that I may never get there, but I know that I am headed in the right direction.
